Aspiring YouTuber’s offered dream job as ‘vlogger bursary’ launched

YouTube fans dreaming of making a career on the social media channel have been offered a chance to win their dream job.

The City Kitchen is giving away an £8,000 travel fund, a vlogging kit and mentorship from former University of Plymouth student and one of YouTube’s rising stars. This unique prize package, or ‘vlogger bursary’, will equip one winner with everything they need to carve out a career as a professional travel vlogger.

A spokesperson for The City Kitchen commented: “We want to give one person the opportunity to enjoy the flavours of the world, record their adventures and use this incredible opportunity to kickstart a career on YouTube. As part of their travels, the winner will be able to experience first-hand the unique and authentic cuisines that inspire our dishes.”

The chilled ready meal brand behind what is thought to be the first ‘vlogger bursary’, has a range of meals exclusive to Tesco inspired by cuisines from around the world including Japan, Spain, China, Thailand, Malaysia and India.

Supporting the competition in his first partnership is British travel YouTuber, Jason Billam. In a little over a year, Jason has racked up more than 1 million views and 30,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel, Jason Billam Travel, where he shares vlogs of his travels. One of YouTube’s top UK travel vloggers, he has now visited 27 countries and is making a full-time career out of travel vlogging.

Jason, who will mentor the winner, commented: "Travelling cleanses your outlook on life. It presents us with the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective. Whether it's flavours of the food you eat, the smiles of the people you form new relationships with, or the beauty of the nature you find yourself surrounded by."

“This is a unique opportunity to ignite your career as the next travel vlogger. The gear list and prize money is a massive head start in what is now a highly competitive industry. I can’t wait to work with the winner and offer all the advice I have, from travelling solo in some of the world’s least visited countries, to editing your shots with a cinematic edge.”

Along with the travel fund and time with Jason, the winner’s package includes a DSLR camera, laptop and video editing software to ensure the winner can create their own stunning travel content.

To enter, aspiring vloggers are asked to produce a short vlog with a food and travel theme. Judges including Jason Billam will select the winner. The competition runs from 13th March – 1st May 2018. Visit to find out more including all competition terms and conditions.
