Fantastic amount raised for Alzheimer's Society

The charity team at Otter Nurseries handed over a cheque for almost £3,500, giving a welcome boost to charity of the year 2015, Alzheimer’s Society.

Throughout the year, staff and customers at the popular garden centre in Brixton raised funds through a series of events including; raffles, donations from a woodturning display, a Fuchsia show put on by the British Fuchsia Society and games held at the Christmas launch, such as ‘guess the weight of the cake’ and ‘number of sweets in a jar’.

A Summer fun day held in August which saw customers enjoying a bouncy castle, tombola, hook-a-duck and gave them the chance to hold an owl or get their cars washed, raised £545 towards the grand total of £3,403.70.

Dania Shaw, Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser for Devon & Cornwall, said: “The charity team set themselves a target of £3,000 so to reach this amount is fantastic.

“I just want to say thank you to them for all their hard work – we were amazed by their enthusiasm.”

The money raised will go towards helping research and the many services provided locally by Alzheimer’s Society, including memory cafés, an activity centre, dementia support workers and befrienders.

Otter Nurseries' charity co-ordinator Adele Rundle added: “We are really pleased with the amount we raised. It’s down to our wonderful staff and customers who give us so much support.

“We’ve recently chosen our charity for 2016, Dogs for Good, and look forward to raising as much as we can for them during the coming year.”
