Would you like to be involved in health research?

The Research, Development and Innovation team are looking to involve the people of Plymouth and the local community in designing the new research strategy for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

University Hospitals Plymouth has a well established reputation for high quality research and is currently running over 600 clinical trials that seek to improve the health and wellbeing of its population.

The Patient and Public Involvement Event at the Future Inn Last week, the Trust held an engagement event at the Future Inn in Plymouth, asking patients and the public what types and areas of research they would like to see the Trust partake in, encouraging everyone to get involved.

At the event, which was attended by over 100 people, the audience heard talks from local health researchers, as well as members of the public already involved in research projects.

“The day was a great success,” explains Ben Hyams, Lead Research Nurse. “We were blown away by the attendance at this event, and were massively impressed by the levels of engagement in the room.

“The event was designed to be highly interactive and attendees contributed a lot throughout the day. It was a great opportunity for us as a team to listen to our service users and learn what is important to them, and how we can improve.”

The team plan to take forwards the initial ideas and suggestions from attendees at the event, but would also now like to open the invitation more widely.

“We want the population of Plymouth to have the opportunity to feed into our new research strategy and it is clear from this event that there is a real appetite from patients and the public to utilise research to improve healthcare,” adds Ben.

The Research, Development and Innovation team would now like to hear from YOU, so that they can ensure the new strategy represents the local community.
