Plymouth nursery children welcome new interactive tablet table

Devon nursery group has introduced new interactive tablet tables to its settings as a way to help children learn and aid development.

The Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School in Springhill Green, Plymouth, as well as other Mama Bear’s settings in Torbay, have installed the new technology which will mirror the early years foundation stage (EYFS) curriculum.

The large touch-screens will be used for individual, group and whole class sessions and combine fun games and activities with learning objectives such as creativity, art, maths, numeracy, literacy and letter formation.

Parents can receive direct updates from the table so they can keep up-to-date with new skills their children are learning and even see digital artwork which has been created.

The tablet tables also teach children about the world, emotions, responsibility, music and much more while encouraging users to take turns, share and communicate. The software can be tailored to meet individual children’s needs, interests and next steps.

Nursery Manager Faye Lawlor, said: “When analysing the children's development recently we identified that maths and knowledge and understanding of the world were areas we needed to focus on so investigated ways in which to narrow the gaps in children’s learning.

“Thanks to some Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) funding we were able to secure the tablet tables including a range of software and accessories, which can be changed and adapted to meet the ever-changing interests of the children.

“This resource is great as it will grow and change with each cohort of children and the teaching we focus on each term.

“We can’t wait to see how the children develop using the technology.”

Mama Bear’s runs settings across Bristol, Somerset and Devon. The family-run group provides care for children from three months to five years and provides children with their first vital level of education to give them a head-start when they start at primary school.
